Salam! I’ve just returned from Fez, Morocco, and I’m still trying to process everything I experienced in this fascinating ancient city.
Walking through the narrow laneways felt like stepping back in time a feeling that’s hard to put into words. The towering walls, the chaotic charm of the markets, the sounds, the scents… Fez truly feels like another world.
Stepping out of my Airbnb and into the medina, I was immediately overwhelmed (in the best way possible!) by how different everything felt compared to the Morocco I’d seen in other cities. There’s something deeply magical about Fez a kind of energy that lingers with you long after you leave.
I’ll be taking you through everything that made Fez so unforgettable for me, from wandering aimlessly through its maze-like streets to uncovering its hidden stories.
The medina, which has over 9,500 alleys, was intentionally designed like a maze so that invaders would get lost and never find their way out. Genius!
While cities like Marrakech often steal the spotlight, Fez offers something more grounded- more raw. It’s less polished, less commercial, and far more authentic. This city doesn’t try to impress you. It just exists, powerfully, and unapologetically.
If you’re searching for the real Morocco, start here.
Just be ready to get lost both in the medina, and in the magic of this incredible place. 🇲🇦
